Reappointments to the Independent Agricultural Appeals Panel

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) has reappointed 16 members for a third term to serve on the Independent Agriculture Appeals Panel from 1 April 2008. Details of the reappointed members are attached.

Appeals Panels meet to consider appeals from farmers and traders against decisions made by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) in administering the various schemes that it operates.

Notes to Editors

1. The Rural Payments Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It is the single paying agency responsible for the administration of the Single Payment Scheme in England and for certain schemes throughout the UK.
2. There are 44 members of the Appeal Panel. These are appointed by fair and open competition in accordance with the Code of Practice on Public Appointments for periods of three years. The Panel addresses its findings to Ministers who decide whether or not to accept the Panel’s recommendation.
3. Panel Members are reappointed under guidelines set down by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
