The purpose of the scheme is to encourage the use of concentrated grape must (CGM) of EU origin. Within the UK and Ireland, it may be used in the manufacture of British wine (including British sherry) or as the main component in home wine kits which are for marketing in the UK and Ireland.

The marketing year for this scheme is 1 August - 31 July.
