The aim of the butter for non-profit-making organisations scheme is to maintain a level of utilisation of open market butter by enabling certain categories of consumers to purchase the butter at a reduced price.

The aid is paid to butter packers for unsalted or salted butter sold on a monthly basis to non-profit making organisations (educational or caring establishments) and is controlled through the use of a certificate of entitlement.
