Intervention Butter


Butter may be offered into intervention between 1 March and 31 August each year. However intervention purchasing will only be allowed within the season if market conditions so dictate.

An average UK market price is reported to the Commission each week. Details of the reported UK market price are freely available from the Dairy Intervention section should you require them. See 'Contacts' link opposite.

Intervention prices for both butter and skimmed milk powder are published in Council Regulation (EC) No 1234/2007. You can view this information through the Eur-Lex website.

Closing intervention buying-in of butter at fixed price
On the basis of the communications submitted by Member States on 5 March 2009, the total quantity of butter offered for intervention at fixed price since 1 March 2009 has passed the limit of 30,000 tonnes.

Therefore, the regulation closing intervention buying-in of butter at fixed price will be published on 7 March 2009, a single percentage will be fixed for the quantities received by Member States on 4 March 2009 and the offers received by Member States on and after 5 March 2009 will be rejected.

The opening of buying-in of butter by a tendering procedure will follow after the closing and the time limit for the submission of tenders for the first individual invitation to tender will be 17 March 2009.
