EU legislation required all Member States to introduce a computerised tracing system by the end off 1999. On 28 September 1998 Great Britian introduced its Cattle Tracing System (CTS) - Northern Ireland already had a tracing system in operation.

Cattle tracing is now an integral part of the Governments committment to improve consumer confidence in British Beef.
