Claims relating to deliveries from 1 August 2008 must be received by RPA by the last day of the third month after the end of the period claimed for, in order to be paid in full, and by the end of the fifth month at the very latest. For example, a claim for the Autumn Term ending in December should be received by 31 March. If received in April it is reduced by 5%. If received in May it is reduced by 10%. Is school milk free?

Milk can be free in certain cases. Under-fives are eligible for free milk under the Department of Health's Nursery Milk Scheme. Where a Local Authority provides school milk, it is free for children from families on Income Support. In Wales, milk is free for pupils in Key Stage 1. Some Local Authorities and schools additionally subsidise school milk, making it free.

How much does school milk cost?

The price varies across the country, according to the costs of supply, delivery, packaging, administration, distribution, refrigeration, in some cases flavouring, etc. The subsidy must be reflected in the price paid, by using the maximum selling price formula: purchase price minus subsidy plus administration/distribution allowance (maximum 7p per serving) = maximum price. The administrative/distribution allowance is to cover costs incurred in operating the scheme. It is not an automatic entitlement and it must be justified. Records must be available to show justification.
